troop's own: musicals and cons

i have a couple of troop's own i'm going to start working on the instructions for.

#1. musicals
musicals can be very entertaining and range in topics from high school, dances, going to law school, and more.
  • what is the difference between broadway, touring, and local productions?
  • what constitutes a musical? can a stage play with only one or two numbers, usually done by just one person, make the show a musical? why or why not?
  • find several audio recordings for both broadway and motion picture musicals. what is you opinion of them?
  • if possible, attend a broadway, touring, or local production of a musical. write about your experience.
  • watch at least one movie musical. watch a musical that was turned into a movie. watch a movie and the musical it inspired, such as hairspray and legally blonde. what are some difference between the movie and the movie musical for both movie inspired musicals and musical inspired movies?
  • what are, if any, some differences between broadway musicals, movie musicals, and musicals that were turned into movies?
#2. cons
conventions, or cons, can be held for just about anything- from professions to tv shows to books. popular kinds of cons are sci-fi and comic related. famous ones are for star wars, star trek, comic con in san diego, and dragon con in atlanta. any con can last from just over a weekend to several days.
  • find out information about professional conventions.
  • find out information about sci-fi conventions.
  • what are some other conventions out there? try looking up twicon, pyratecon, faerie con, and harry potter conventions.
  • are there any cons in your area? find out information that includes pricing, location, guests, and programming. would you want to go? what programs would you attend?
if possible, attend a local convention in your area.
  • plan your own con- both big(several days) and small(over a weekend). what would your theme be? what kinds of programming would you have? how long would it be? would you include any demonstrations (sword fighting, dancing, etc)?
  • invite your friends and try putting on a one day or two day con. you can include what you designed in earlier requirements. include panels, readings, discussions, demonstrations, and more.
